ABOUT NGARANDO

Ngarando Resort is on the east side of Pigeon Island, facing Ngadeli Island across a lagoon.

ACCOMMODATION

There are two units available, and accommodation also in other buildings on the island, though these are not always available. The units each have a double and a single bed and a gas refrigerator and cooker, shower and flush toilet. Electricity is provided by solar panels and a generator.

FOOD & COOKING

You can choose whether to self-cater or let us prepare your meals for you. Naturally enough, meals are mostly based on what is readily obtainable in the islands, including fresh fruit and fish. Fresh bread is baked every day and there is a range of imported (European) supplies available, as well as what is available at the trading post. A market on Wednesdays and Saturdays can be found at the government sub-station, 3 kms away.

MEDICAL CONSIDERATIONS

There is a medical clinic 3 kms away, accessible by boat.

WHAT YOU NEED

The trading post on Pigeon Island can provide almost all your needs. However some cosmetic items are not available.

COSTS

Accommodation costs: Single SI $230.00 Double/Twin SI $370.00, Extra person SI $130.00 per night.

Approximate exchange rates are: UK 10 to 1 (divide SI dollars by 10 to get UK rate), US 7 to 1, Australian 5 to 1.

There is also a transfer fee from the airport to Ngarando, which is SI $1000 for two or more persons.

For those who would like a long holiday of several weeks or more, the daily rate is reduced by 20 - 30 %.

THINGS TO DO

Wind-surfing, scuba-diving, snorkeling and fishing are entertainments provided by Ngarando. Reef walking, canoeing, visiting picturesque villages, table-tennis, videos, reading books, these are all available to our guests.

DIVING

We have equipment for 6 divers, two dive bottles per person. There are 30 miles of reef with all kinds of reef diving, drop-offs and lots of fish.

Costs: SI$350 per person for two dives; SI$200 per person for one dive, or a night dive (includes tanks, fill, weight-belt, BCD, wet-suit if required and in available size;also includes 1 x 51tr mix petrol, enough to visit most sites near by. SI$20 surcharge per person if diving near a village (goes to village fund). Apart from the boat handler, as divemaster I can accompany divers if required.

WHAT TO BRING

There's no denying, Pigeon Island is remote. Bring that which you know you could not do without. Obviously, this includes any medication and anything else that may be difficult or impossible to replace easily.
